COST OF PUMPING WORKS.
(To the Editor of the Evening Star.) Sib,—l see your morning contemporary admits correspondent's figures are correct as to the expenditure on the Big Pump; he also admits the receipts from Gold Revenue are correct, bat the drainage contributions he pretends to know nothing about. Now the fact is the writer of that local wai " Cymric," or otherwise some County offioial, and if he is up to his business he should know as much about it as any one connected with the affair. At the end of every month the engineer and manager, Mr Black, forwarded a statement of the month's expenditure to the office in Auckland; the Secretary there filled in the amount received for drainage contributions, and deducted that from the sum total, and called on the County and Borough Councils to make up the differ* ence.
