AUCKLAND.
This day,
At the declaration of the poll for City West today, Mr Goldie, in thanking the electors, said that the feeling was great on the Education question all over JSTew Zealand. He had received telegrams from various parts;of both Islands; congratulating him'on his success, and said that he would be no party to have the Bible read in the schools.
Mr Dignan said he did not consider himself a beaten candidate, but would take the same position if asked to stand again, thought that on another occasion the result would not be the same.
Mr J. S. Macfarlance writes to the Herald stating that it is rumored that Clements, of the Waikato, has been appointed Immigration Agent in New Zealand, and says he can scarcely credit it."
