Monday.
A man named Edward Clarkson has been apprehended for criminally assaulting bis mother. He was brought before the magistrate to-day, and remanded until ths 13th instant, bail being taken for his appearance.
Sargood and Son are about to re-erect their premises of brick and stone. The Minister of Public Works is expected here to-morrow, and the Governor the next day. Tuesday evening. > The Canterbury versus Otago cricket match resulted in a victory for the former in one innings and twelve runs. The return match was afterwards commenced. Canterbury went in first and scored 89 for five wickets. This day. The A vonside parsonage suburbs church was totally destroyed by fire last night. It is stated to bo insured in the Union Company for £650.
It was stated at the Charitable Aid Board last night that surgical fever had broken out extensively in the hospital, through the filthy condition of some of the wards.
