GISBORNE.
This day. Destructive Fire. There was a great fire here last evening. The Albion Hotel; Best's, draper and grocer; Nastnith's; jeweller; Bradley's stables, and other places were destroyed, The fire originated either in Best's or Nasmith's place.
Lator.—Further Particulars. The fire broke out last night about eight o'clock in Best's drapery, store. AH the buildings on the block were speedily reduced to ashes. The total estimated loss is £25,000; total insurances on ■'property are t"£14,650, distributed amongst the insurance offices as follows :.-- National, ; £1300 ; Union Company, £1900; South British Company, £800; Victoria, £900; Norwich Union, £900 ; Hawkc'sßay, £900; Standard, £1400; New Zealand, £6550. The buildings burned down are the Bank of New Zealand, old and new buildings ; Adams' stationer shop ; W. Wood, watchmaker ; A. J. Cooper, shoemaker; Bradley's stables; Gisborne Club; Albion Hotel; Aduir's warehouse, shop and private residence. A strong southerly wind prevailed, otherwise the whole town would have been reduced to ashes.
