Very Hard Times.—Sir Wilfred Lairson, at an agricultural dinner in Comber- — land recently, told a good atory illustrating - the effect of hard times on farmers:— -' One Scotch farmer had determined, in * spite of the bad times, to pay his rent if it were his last shilling, and saying to the factor who receired it, "It it my last shilling, 1* he threw down a roll of notes. -' The factor counted them, and e>aid, 11 There i» £50 too much." '• Odd«, man," said the farmer, •• I put my hand in the wrong pouch."
