Thames Goldfield Hospital.
The usual monthly meeting of the Committee of this institution wag held at the Salutation Hotel at 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon. Present —Mr McCullough, Vice • President (in the chair), Mr J. Hudson, Hob. Treasurer, the Jtlcvg. It. S. Bunn, J. T. Hintoo, Messrs W. Davies, L. Khrenfried, D. Miller, J. Kens haw, J. McGowan, Wilson, Auier, Gudgeqn. APOLOGIES. Apologies were made for the absence of Messrs Frater (President), Comer, Mulligan, and the Hers. S. J. .Neill and V. Lush. MINTTTEB. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. - The Vice-Pr. sident said he had received a telegram from Mr Sbeehan stating that the £400 promised some time ago tor the Old Men's lieiuge had been handed over to MrE. W. Puckey. HOUSE COMMITTEE'S BEPOBT. The report of the House Committee was read as follows:—" To the President, &c—The House Committee beg to report having examined the accounts presented for payment. !*alaries, £64 15», wi tradesmen's accounts, £28 la, making a^ total of £92 16s for the month, which we recommend to the General Committee for payment. We. have much pleasure acknowledging the receipt during the month of a large basket of buns from the Grahamstown Wesleyan Sunday (School, donations of peaches from Mrs Ehreafried, Mrs Waters, Mr Ashby, Mr Mason, andf 6 tins of preserved peaches from Mr Gf. Black, also a parcel of clothing from -Mrs Leo. The cook, Mr W. Swindell*, having tendered his resignation, it will be . necessary to provide a successor in his place. We have had no complaints from any of the patients or servants, and the general conduct of the inmates and staff has been satisfactory.. The whole establishment appears scrupulously clean, aud the patients pleased with their attendants. Bunn said he hoped that something would be done in the matter of drainage. , , ' - The report was adopted on the motion *" of Mr Miller, the matter of the drainage • and the appointment of a cook being left, to the new House Committee. ', '' The Key. R. S. Bunn proposed that s r vote of thanks be convejed to the ladiei and gentlemen who had made presents to the Hospital during the month. Seconded by Mr.jt(enshj§w and carried. The following is the statement of receipts and expenditure for the halt-year endiug 31nl December, 1878:—KeoeipU : Receipts from endowments, nil; receipts from or on account of patients, £5610s 6d; subscriptions and donations, £239 10s lOd; subsidy from Government, £500; grant by Borough ot Thames, £2801>4 total, £1066 Is 4d. Expenditure: Bj salaries and commission, £372 6s 9d; § ratious, fuel and light, £204 16»2d; furniture and fittings, £7 4V lid; medicine and medical comforts, £62 13s 8d; print* ing, advertising and stationery, £7 19s; burial expenses, £6 7s; repairs and alterations to buildings, £8 4s;:incidental expenses, £6 Os 8d ; insurance, £5; land for building for Refuge, £280; total, £960 12s 2d.—E. Honiss, Secretary and Collector.
The President explained with reference to an item " 10s, KM. Court fees," that they had been incurred in .connection with the lad .Robinson's case. The report was adopted. " ' . HOUSE SUBGEOn's BBPOEI. The report of this officer was read as follow!.—" The Preiident, etc.—Gentlemen,— The condition of the Hospital' during the past month baa remained nearly the same as during its predecessor, The number of in-patients and out-patieuti; is slightly lower, and happily there is no death to record. The nurse, Mrs Law rence, hat applied for an increase of salary. She seems very deserving of it. -i Mnce she came here she has shown her*' self thoroughly conversant with her duties and has discharged, them day and night 'with unwearied assiduity. . £ wqu^T recommend her application to the faror« able notice of the Committee. . The monthly statement of sick is ts under :— Statistical Nosology.—Zymotic "diseases: remained 2, admitted 1, discharged 3; Constitutional: admitted 1, discharged 1 ; Local: remained 9, admitted 5, discharged 7, remaining 7; Developmental: remained 1, admitted 1, remaining 2 ; Violent: remained 1, admitted 2, discharged 3. Totals: remained 13, admitted 10, discharged 14, remaining 9. P.S.—Since drawing up the above the cook, W. Swindells, has handed in his resiguation." ; The report was received. '. Mr Keusbaw said that the nurse was in every way suitable (or her position. Her present salary was 15s per week, and he thought it would be advisable to increase it to 20s per week.
This suggestion was accepted on the motion of Mr Miller, and the report wai adopted. FINANCE. The annual balance sheet was laid on the table, and was ordered to be taken as read, also some statements required by Government, copies of which were submitted to the Committee for inspection. INCREASE OF SEC BETA ET's SALABT. Mr Davies gave- notice of motion that at next meeting the Committee consider the advisability of increasing the seore< tary's salary in consequence of additional work. HOUSE COMMITTEE. The following gentleman were appointed the House Committee for the ensuing month:—The Her. S. J. Neill, Messrs Davies, Comer, and Mcllhone. This was all the business.
