The Chairman read the clauses of the Act, pointing out the duties of the Board, after which
Mr Davies suggested that the first steps to be taken should be in the direction of getting the grant of land promised under the Act from the Government. The possession of property would enable the Board to raise funds for the establishment of the School.
Dr Kilgour said he did not Bee how they could make a beginning until they possessed funds.
Mr Brodie thought no time should be lost in proceeding with the matter, he therefore proposed—" That this Board take steps to establish a High School in accordance with 4th section of Thames High School Act"" Dr Kiigour said he had pleasure in seconding the motion, which thereupon was carried. Mr Davies moved " That a petition be forwarded to the Governor asking that land promised to the Board in the Te Aroha Block be set apart forthwith." This was seconded by Mr Wilkinson and carried. Mr Brodie moved that Dr Kilgour, Messrs Wilkinson, Davies and Bagnall be a committee to draw up by-laws for the guidance of the Board. Seconded by Mr Brown and carried. Mr Brodie also moved "That the Chairman, Dr Kilgour, Mr Wilkinson, and the mover be a committee to obtain all information as to scale of fees to be charged, the number of pupils likely to attend, the course of study, the teaching staff required, and any other information they might consider necessary for the guidance of the Board." Mr Brown seconded. Carried. Mr Davies said that there was some £60 raised some years ago for the purpose of establishing a Ladies' College here, and he thought that money might be obtained for the purpose of the Board. He moved—" That Mr Brodi« and the mover be a committee to ascertain if that money could be transferred to the Board. Mr Bagnall seconded. Carried.
