The Evening Star. PUBLISHED DAILY AT FOUR O'CLOCK P.M. Resurrexi. TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 4, 1879.

The first meeting of the Board of Governors of tho Thames High School will take place in the Borough Council Chambers this evening, when, we presume, the first business will be the appointment of a Chairman. The constitution of the Board is provided for in clause three of the Act, from which it will be seen that the Mayor of Thames for the time being, after the first year, be ex officio a member of the Board; This may be worthy of, some consideration in making choice of a Chairman. Clause S reads as follows :— The said Board shall consist of seven persons, to be nominated in the first instance by the Governor, but no member shall hold office longer than a year, but a retiring member shall be eligible for election or nomination. After the expiration of one year the Governor shall appoint three members, the Thames Borough Council shall appoint three other members, and the Mayor for the time being of the Borough of the Thames shall be the other member of the said Board. In the event of any vacancy or vacancies occurring by reason of the death, resignation, or otherwise of the members of the said Board, such vacancy or vacancies may be forthwith filled up by the nomination of a new member or members by the Governor, or elected by the Borough Council, as the case may be.
