The annual meeting of the Bay of Islands Coal Company was held to-day. The directors reported a steadily increasing demand for the coal. During the year they sold 39,363 tons, an increase of 9,103 tons brer the previous year. The quality of the coal improves as work is driven towards the new shaft, and the directors anticipate a quality shortly that will be fit fo* any part of the world. The new works hare, cost to date £6100. The directors decided to increase the capital of the Company by the issue of 2000 shares of tea pounds each; onethird of the shares to be issued at once. A dividend at the rate of fire per cent, for the half year was declared, making, with the interim dividend of July last, ten per cent, per annum* j. Charles Veith, charged with indecently assaulting a Maori woman, was brought up, to-day, but the Bench thought there was not sufficient evidence to commit, and he was discharged.
