The Council inserted a clause in the Parliamentary Bill defining contempt as acts or words in writing in or within the precincts of Parliament Houses. The Governor's commission has not arrived; his departure to Now Zealand is indefinite. Seventy-three Chinamen arrived at Port Darwin yesterday from Hongkong. Melbotjene, January 30. The Hon. J. T. Smith, ex-Mayor, died to-day. A public meeting passed a resolution
urging the Government to legislate to prevent the influx of Chinese.
Melbourne, Thursday. Preparations are being made for the reception of Lord IjTornian by. Sir Bryan O'Loghlen will meet His Excellency at Port Phillip Heads when the Eingarooma is signalled. The hew Governor will be sworn in with the usual ceremony.
