Anniversary Day was celebrated here by starting work oh the Ohinemun bridge; the money for which was promised by the Hon. the Native Minister a short time ago. Mr A. Aitken, County Engineer, came up yesterday and intipeoted varidui sites which had been proposed. Having fixed upon the centre of the largV square in this township as being the most suitable, the work of taking the necessary levels, soundings, and measurements was done today. I understand that Mr Aitken will return to the Thames to-mor-row, and will immediately corantenoe drawing the plans aid specification! so that no time may be lost in calling for tenders for the work.. The bridge is to be 16 feet wide, the same as the Eauaeranga Bridge^' and, I believe, the width of the river at high water mark is about 120 feet.
