Wednesday. John Henderson, C.E., to-day filed a statement that he is unable to meet his engagements with his creditors. At a series of athletic sports between the Treasury and Audit Departments, the Audit won. Rifle, cricket, and tug of war matches followed.
The members of the Wellington Club have invited the Governor to a farewell dinner. His Excellency has accepted. The Government here have placed £2000 at the disposal of the Sydney Exhibition Commission as a first contribution.
It is proposed by the Tramway Company to retain £1 per month from the wages towards a Driver's Fund as a security for damages the company may have to pay for accidents. This is strongly objected to. Since the opening of the tramway 387,000 people have used it, and each of the engines has travelled 6,000 miles.
