This day. Anniversary Say—The Regatta.

Splendid weather for the regatta. A stiff 6.W. breeze. Eight vessels started for the schooner race, a beautiful sight, all away together excepting the Torea, which lost ten minutes getting under weigh. When rounding the North Head you could hare stretched a sheet over six of them, all in a line. The following Star pigeongram has just been received :—" When ten miles from Auckland the vessels were, in the order named :— Keward, Albatross, Transit, Myrtle, Torea, Midano, Adah and Sea Breeze. The favorites are the Albatross and Transit." In the cutter race round the same course eight vessels also started. When six miles out Harris' two vessels, Lizzie and Fannie, were leading. None of the vessels are expected back before four

o'clock. In the Open Boat Sailing Race first time round, passing the flagship Stodart's Alert was first, the Brothers second. The Toy, which won easily in Wellington and Lyttelton, is nowhere in the race. Thirteen boats started. The Toy wai seventh first time round. Sailed: Taiaroa from Manukau. The Tararua leaves this evening. The Brothers won the open sailing boat race. Toy collided and gave up. Two thousand persons attended Papakura races. Hurdle Eace. —Harry Mount, 1; Loafer, 2; Jonathan Wild, 3. Whitefoot was scratched.
