LOCAL CRICKET.

(To the Editor of the Efening Star.) j Sib,—On perusing the letter of " Leg Stump " in last Monday's Star, it struck me there is b little more room for having an innings than he went in for. First, he wants to know if the T.C.C. is going to i piny Auckland on the 29th down here. Well, sir, I think before they get anyene down they would require to play more matches together, and when they do go to out Parawai with that intention, they should each and every one of them protest against anyone having an innings without he does some fielding first. I was really surprised last Saturday to see this done. I went out there as an on|looker (having heard that the Married v. Single were going to play a match), and to me it was disgusting to see one individual (who had been sitting down) get up, coolly take off his coat, and go to the wicket with as much humbug, as regards padding up, &c, as if he had been working hard the whole innings through. Had I been one of the players, I should have made one for a row or protest, as right is right, and that was not; nor is it consistent with cricket, as it sets a bad example for young players. But I don't know if the party in question should know better! If I am here, sir, on Saturday next, I will bo out there again, as I expect they will have a match of somo sort (and I am an old retired cricketer and cannot resist looking on at the gamp), and if I see a hole (o pick like that I will iet you know. Hoping you will not think this irksome, I am, &C, JtfEHBED.
