Stevens, the proprietor of Stevens's claim, since last crushing has been doing a good deal of opening works with a view to the more systematic working of his lode. A considerable tonnage of stuffabout 50 tons—has been brought to grass, and crushing will be started as soon as the rain comes. The sluicing party are still working away, but find great difficulty in saving the gold, which is very fine.
