OAMARU.

This day. Four workmen, employed by W. Teschemaker, Esq., Taupo Farm, went to bathe in the Kakanui river yesterday morning, and one named O'Connor swam across the stream, " and on his way back the others saw him suddenly sink, as if he had been seized with cramp. One of them rushed in to to save ■ him, but O'Connor clutched at him frantically. The latter got away from the man and reached the shore exhausted. O'Connor by this time had sunk, information was given to the police. The body was recovered the same afternoon by Constable Donovan, and brought into town.. The coroner has demanded an inquest. Deceased will be buried to-day. O'Connor was unmarried, and had no friends in the Colony;
