LADY GOOCH'S MOCK CONFINEMENT.

In the prosecution of Lady Gooch and. Mrs Walker on Saturday, for attempting to palm off a child upon Sir Francis Gooch, it transpired that the child belonged to a young lady who had run away from school to be confined at Peckham. Mrs Main, of the Infants' Home, through whom the transfer was effected, declined to give the mother's name, and said the transaction was entered in the register: upon an examination it was found that there was no such entry. At the close of the evidence Mr G. Lewis, jun., appealed on behalf of Sir Francis Gooch for permission to withdraw from the prosecution, as all the mischief was now at an end. Mr Newton took some time to consider his decision.
