Since my last report there is little fresh in the mine. .The. sinking of the winze is going ahead, and though no gold to speak of is to be. Been it is rich. To-day, whilst at the battery, Mr Walker made several tests of the rough and rather unpromising looking stone from the wiope, all of which, yielded higtoy satisfactory results. The whole 40 head at the mill ii now going on quartz from the.Q^d^imn section, which on'the, whole, is shapfe well. The stuff from the wide drive—that is near where-the lode splits-whjaft was expected not to go more than half aivounce per ton is showing from an ounce to an ounce, and a half pn,the plates. Some trials from; the upper level are not shapink very Well, but the'sWff%6hi!'tne stopesover drive from whence the last crushing was taken,- is really shaping splendidly. In one* of- the fire head batteries it was so rich^that the amalgam in the boxes might be seen poking through the box gratings, while.the plat^s^«fe also well coated. At.present there/is about 200 tons i on hand, bat as the, opera* tions are now proceeding systematically, this is i being considerably augmented. The good prospects I referred/tfri is coming from the winze are pre-eminently satisfactory, as they foreshadow a rua^f this kind of quartz downward.
