QUEEN OF BEAUTY.

Feeling that the company is not able to keep the Waio-Karaka Pump going any longer, the directors yesterday issued instructions to hare it stopped, and this order was complied with at noon to-day. This morning men were employed making all secure in the bottom level chamber. The principal work recently carried on by the company has been driving, on tha cross-lode in Queen of the May section, which has increased to five feet in thickness, though no gold of any consequence Las been seen in it. The manager is now trying a block between the Nos. 6 and 7 levels, which was partly worked under McDonald's management, when operations were suspended in it because it was poor. If, however, it is found that it will pay to take out, there is plenty of quartz to keep work going on it for some time, and as it is adjacent to the shaft, even, should the water rise to No. 7; an inter* mediate level could be opened to the shaft at small expense. A tribute block has recently been let to Tredinnick and party in the City of London section from No, 6 to No. 6 level; the No. 3 lode, from which, some time ago, Johns and party took out some splendid crushings, is being worked. Wingate and party have taken up a block on the Queen of the May foot* wall leader between New. 5 and 6 levels. Campbell and party, who purchased Wilson's tribute, are now working on a small. leader, but have not accumulated much quartz yet.
