A large attendance at the Regatta, though less than on previous years. Wind north-west, but light, a poor day for sailing races. Ships' boats sailing races, Ist prize, £10; 2nd, £5 ; three entries. —Won by Kangitikei, Mary Annison second. Champion trading vessels, under 50 tons. Torea, Jessie Niccol, Owake, Alert, Herald, and Croydon. Ist prize, ShawSaville cup and 75sovs; 2nd, 25 soys. Jessie Niccol, Owake, and Croydon scratch. The Alert, Herald, and Torea won in the order named, after a long race, the wind falling badly. In the Champion Yacht Race the Dove passed the Committee Ship at 7 p.m., beating the Fra by five minutes. Four-oared Whaleboat for youths, prizes £10 and £3.—Won by Rangitota, Avalanche second.
Sailing Race in Open-boats, prizes £25 and £5. Won by Foy,' Eangitika second.
Canoe race, Mayor's Cup.—Lanauze 1, Kathleen J. Jones 2. Ships' boats pulling race, four-oared, prizes £15 and £5, and £2 entries.— Hurunui, Hydaspes, Rangitikei, Florence Mac Donald. Hurunui-Ist, Mac Donald 2nd.
The land sports were competed for with great enthusiasm. Twenty-six trains, with passengers, arrived during the day from Christchurch, Between 11 and 12 one thousand tickets were issued.
