Hollis is now sinking on the lead with a view to connect it with the bottom leveK having discovered a lead in this level which, to all appearance, is the one on which they are sinking. Their point of present operations is about midway between the original workings and the boundary of the Perseverance boundary, this being the apparent course of the lead. Within the last few days there haye been 8 tons of Young New Zealand quartz crushed. Cleaning up arid retorting took place to-day, for the satisfactory yield of 600z9 gold, showing the average to be 7J ozs per ton. Donnelly has bad 4 tons treated from the Welcome. The amalgam is not yet retorted, but I believe the average yield for this will be about 12 dwts per ton. I shall be in town with the gold, in all probability, on Monday next—E. M. Coebkxt. Mr Brown showed me some splendid specimens of the loose gold from Hollis' tribute, picked from amongst the mullock. Some of the pieces are as large as a nut, and appear, to hare been retorted or in some way; submitted to igneous action- They are on view at the Bank of New Zealand. .- :
