Volunteer Inspection.
At 5.30 on Saturday, afternoon, the several companies of our citizen soldiery having mustered at their respective drill sheds, collected on O'Neill's Espanade, Grabamstown, under Major Murray, and were formed into column right in front, in the following order :— No. 1 Company, Hauraki Engineers, under Captain Small, Lieutenant Barlow^ and Sub-Lieutenant Denbj; No. 2 Company, T.S.T. No. 1, under Lieut. Dey, Sub— Lieiitenant Johnston, and Sub-Lieut. Brownlow ; No. 3 Honißany, T.R.E. under Captain Farrell and Lieut. Hunter ;, No. ; 4 Company,, Thames Native Eiflea, under . Captain Taipari, Lieut. Bait a, and SubrLieut. Matiu.Poona; No. 5 Company, T.N.8., under Captain Wildman and Sub-Lieut. Lawless ; No. 6 Company, T.N. Artillery detachment, under; Lieuts. Gavin and Brown. At about six o'clock Sir George George Grey arrived, accompanied' *by Major Withers; inspecting officer, Mr T. Peacock (Mayor of Aiici* land,) Surgipon Eilgour.Mr A. Brodie, Mr C.ABobertson (of thefirst officers of the Thames Scottish) and others. The parade was formed in line at open order,! and received Sir George and party with the general salute after which the party passed v down the : ranks preceded by Major Withers. After the inspection, with which Sir George seemed highly gr tified, several.move* meats were executed successfully. A hollow, square was then formed with the. visitors in the centre, and Mrs Kilgour who had kindly consented to make several presentations was also' present. B. O'Loughlen, late 70th Regt., was called to the' front and presented with the Indian and New Zealand War Medals, the trophies being pinnfed oh his breast by Mrs Kilgour. Sir George Grey complimented the recipient, and wished him many happy years to wear the badges of his bravery. The Manning Champion Belt was handed to Vol. Buckley, T.R.K, and a medal presented to Col.-Sergt. Scott, T.S.V.jfof marksmanship. .Seaman Mitchell was decorated with the Thames District Belt, wpn by him in the repent competition. Sir G. Grey then addresed the men as follows : our appearance to-day is in every way satisfactory. I was much please^.;to hear from Colonel Whitmore of your Efficiency, and enthusiasm in all that pertains to' volunteering, and I take the opportunity of informing you that he has in no way overlauded your commendable spirit and satisfactory condition, which. I can now fully endorse as being . equal to anything I have seen in the colony." A marchi past then 'ook place, at the conclneion of which Major Witheri addressed the companies, stating he had been requested by Sir George to compliment the men on their marching, and was impressed with the necessity of their having a proper parade ground. The men were then dismissed. In the evening Major Withers inspected the No. 2 T.S.Vi, who mustered well under Captain Watson. The gallant Major complimented them on the progress made since last inspection. '
