Ok Monday evening next a Christmas service of sacred song entitled "Immanuel," together with a selection of solos, &c, from the Oratorios " Messiah " and "Creation," will be given in the Grahamstown Wesleyan Church by the members of the Choir. We are sure the performance will be such as will draw together a large number of people, who, we have little doubt, will be highly pleased with the treat prepared for them.

Thk only business at the E.M. Court this morning was the punishment of one drunkard in the usual manner. A. J. AUom, Esq., J.P., occupied the bench.

Me Sttb-Inspectob Kenny (successor to E. Bullen, Esq.) arrived here by the Rotomahana yesterday to assume control of the Police. He was accompanied by Mr Superintendent Thompson.

Thb contractors for miking the footpath and water table in Mackay street east, between Willougbby and Eichmond itreets, are making good progress. The footpath will be considerably wider than the old one, while the water table should prevent the accumulation of stagnant water which, during summer months for years back must hare largely contributed to make the neighborhood unhealthy This important work has been done under the provisions of By-law No. f, and in many other unfinished streets the residents could with advantage follow the example of the Mackay street residents.

The Fifteenth Dumber of Enoch appeared to-day, containing the lecture on "Auricular Confession" by. Pastor Chiniquy.

The Hinemoa arrived here (says the Herald) yesterday morning, with Mr Macandrew, Mr. Blacketi, C.E., and Mr Stewart, C.E,, who had been at the Thames. Mr Macandrew stated that he was much pleased with what he had seen in the upper country of the Thames. As shewing that the Ministers intend to carry on the railway as expeditiously as possible, we may state that Mr Beere, surveyor, has been ordered at once to the Thames to proceed with the necessary survey work. Sib George Grey will address his constituents at the Theatre Boyal at eight o'clock this evening. The bare announcement will attract a full house. We were yesterday shewn by Mr James Pinlay, jeweller, Abraham street, a handsome gold and silver Maltese cross of chaste design and intricate workmanship made by that gentleman. The principal portion of this beautiful trophy is silver tastefully engraved, and is inlaid with golden thistles, while a rose of the same metal formed the: centre piece. On the back is the following inscription : "Presented by members of No. 1 Thames Scottish to the Thames Scottish Cadets. In our first and fourth pages will be found the Christmas examinations of the Kauaeranga, Waiotahi, Tararu and Parawai Schools. • ;
