WESTPORT.
This day,
The men employed on the Government work of cutting the new channel in the Buller Kiver are paid eighteen pence per hour, working 10 hours daily. The Engineer has been anxious to have the work expidited, and when the channel ia finished small steamers will go up the river several miles further than is now possible.
