The story of that ancient military body, the Honourable Artillery Company of London, as told in the work just published by Captain Baikes, is of the highest interest, especially on one point. It is clear that from very early times, the " Guild of St. George," or the Society of the Artillery Company, as it was variously termed, was far less intended to act as an independent military body than as a school for officers of the Trained Bands of the City of London.
