Mr F. W. Paul was deputed to make the presentation, and in doing so he said: Mr Bullen, a few friends hare waited upon you to ask your acceptance for Mrs Bullen of this time piece. You are fully aware of the estimation in which you are held by the citizens, as expressed by so many speakers at the recent banquet to yourself, and it is unnecessary for me to go over the same ground in a speech now. A number of the citizens were anxious to show their esteem for you on your departure from the district by some presentation to yourself, but haying discorered that there was a difficulty in the way they determined to make the present to Mrs Bullen. ,1 hare therefore on their behalf to request your acceptance of this time-piece for Mrs Bullen, who is a lady all respect. Mr Bullen said : Mr Paul and gen tiemen, on behalf of Mrs Bullen I thank you very sincerely for this handsome present. lam unaware of what we hare done to merit so much kindness. For myself I can only repeat what I said on a former occasion when I was the recipient of your kindness, that I have endeavored to do my duty impartially and conscientiously, and shall continue to do bo as long as I wear the uniform I do. This handsome clock will serve to remind us of many kindnesses we have received at your hands, and if in the future one of our children should have a home and possess it, it will also serve to keep in their recollection the kindly feeling exhibited towards their

parents. I may say that I never left a place with such regret as I do the Thames. Once more let me thank you on Mrs Bu lien's behalf for this very handsome gift, and for all your kindness to me. This terminated the formal proceedings, but an adjournment was made and the "health of Mr and Mrs Bullen and family " was drunk. There would have been many more citizens present, but for the fact that 11 o'clock on Saturday morning was inconvenient for bankers and persons in business.

[The time-piece is a very valuable on«v a thirty-day clock, strikes hoars and half hours. The outer material is red jasper and grey marble. It was supplied by Mr A. Cookson, jeweller, Brown street]
