Monday. Complaints are being made as to short weights in tradesmen's shops and the bad quality of milk brought into the city from the country districts.

The heavy rain of Sunday morning did considerable damage to the roads and bridges in the country places outside the city, but none in town. A number of •mail bridges were carried away. The schooner Torea was totally wrecked in Tory, Channel yesterday, near Weilingtqn Heads. She struck on a rock while beating down the Channel, and had to be beached. She is now on the beach full of water. In consequence of the prevailing fine weather a good deal of the cargo of the ship Southminster is being saved.

Two hundred cases of kerosene, amongst other staff, are being brought up to-day.
