Loh don, December 6 (night). The Earl of Halifax, in the House of Lords and Mr Whitebread in the House of Commons, gave notice of motion condemning the policy of the Government concerning Afghanistan.

Last night the House of Lords voted the Address in Be ply after a short debate. , : . r .., ,-........;.;'' li-"1 i -":'' ;■ Lord Beaconsfield vindicated the object of the war, and trusted General Roberts' victory would be satisfactory. He thought the worst phases in the depression of trade had passed over, and was confident regarding the regeneration of Asia Minor. The House of Commons voted the Address after a long debate. ■ . ■ ■
The Marquis of Hartington disclaimed any intention to oppose the supplies. The, Secretary of State for the Indian department denied that a "quarrel had been picked with the Ameer. The only object was to secure the frontier. Calcutta, November 28. It is stated on good authority that the reply of the Ameer is both defiant and insolent. It is improbable the Ameer will defend Candahar. It is believed that he possesses seventyfive battalions of infantry, twenty-five regiments of cavalry, with arms of modern pattern, and twenty-five guns. :
