QUEEN OF BEAUTY.
Owing to the gas being tronblesome in the drive on the cross lode; which is now in about 120 feet, the manager has commenced sinking a winze on this lode from No, 3 level to connect with low level drive* and thereby "secure good' ventilation. The crushing is still shaping fairly though nothing like so well as hitherto, proving that as the stopes go up the lode is- decreasing in richness. The stuff, however, is payable. The lode in the stopes is sometimes as small as one foot in thickness, and the quartz not so solid. It i» likely arrangements will be a once made for putting down the "company s_ shaft, when everything indicates there will be a prosperous career before the company, and the^whole of the Waio-Karaka. The directors have been empowered to let any portion of the mine above the present low level on tribute if they think proper. Retorting will take place next week. .
