. Fob some time past rumour has pointed to the Marquis of Normariby as the probable successor of Sir George Bowen in the Governorship of VictoHa, an appointment that has been more. than once referred to as " the blue ribbon of Colonial Governorships, with its palatial residence, £10,000 a year honorarium and allowances, and an essentially, loyal people. The rumours referred to are to-day confirmed. The Marquis of Norman by has been offered, and has accepted the Governorship of Victoria, and will depart with his suite at the latter end of next month. Sir George .Bowen is relegated to the Mauritius, which for choice we should say is not preferable to Victoria* or even our own Colony, though doubtless the circumstances of Mauritius are such as to require the services of an experienced governor and diplomat like Sir George Bowen. The question of the Marquis of Normanby'i successor is still a matter of rumour, but it will probably be between their Excellencies of New South Walei (Sir Hercules Robinson), Queensland (Sir Wm. Cairns), or Tasmania (Mr F. A. Weld). The'latter would, we believe, give great satisfaction to most old. colonists.
