He said the reason he moved the motion was this: So far as he could see at present, there was every reason to believe that the railway would be carried oat from Thames ip Hamilton, and he considered it quite essential that a good road should be made to Katikati and Taurang*. He pointed out that considering the size of Ohinemuri there were but few roads in it. The Chairman said before anyone seconded the mot'on hie would show them even if it was carried they could not do it bylaw. He pointed out a clause in the Act that no loan, could be made of more than four times the amount of annual rates raised in the riding. He had pointed out this injustice while at Wellington to the Government, had suggested that gold revenue be considered as rite* for the purpose of borrowing. There, was an objection raised to this, however. Ho believed there was a sum of money en the estimates for a road to Kati Xati, and he suggested the postponement of the motion till next meeting, before which it wai probable some Minister would have visited the Thames, and they might wait on him with reference to this and other matters. Cr Carpenter seconded the motion. After some discussion, Cr Porter concurred with the suggestion 'of the Chairman, and it was decided that the Council should deputationise any Minister that might come here, concerning this and other matters. NEXT MEETING. It was decided to bold next meeting of the Council on the 9th prox. instead of the 2nd prox. This was all the business. „
