A letter from the chief surveyor is published this morning showing that, while the original survey of Christchurch was well and carefully done, there have since been considerable encroachments on many of the main streets.

At the Licensing Court yesterday plans were shown for a new hotel in the centre of Christchurch with 90 bedrooms, to cost from £12,C00 to£lß,Coo. Hotel-keepers in the vicinity objected, but. the court said it would grant the license if the plant were carried out. > :
