Mayoralty Election.
The election for Mayor takes place to-J day according to Act of Parliament. So far there has not been anything to chronicle which makes this election different? from others of its kind. Adherents of _ both candidates have been doing their level best, hurrying hither and thither with cabs to bring in indolent or indifferent voters.. The jjeneral feeling pervading the crowd at the .'Corner, is that McCullough willL be returned, the numbers- polled being lrrgely in his favor. His general popularity with the business people; and working miners have gained him many votes, and as the cottager paying .five shillings a year in rates has as much say in this election as the man who can control four or'fire votes in each ward at the election of Councillors, the oddg are decidedly ' in: Mr McCullough's favor. The poll closes at six o'clock, and in an hour thereafter the result should be known.. Up to the present McCullough is considerably ahead/and a large accession to his majority is ce:iain as soon as the miners come off shift.','/. ; V," '''■ 'z \ '
