CRICKET.

According to the hint thrown out by us last week, the first Eleven of the T.C.O. played on Saturday a match with Twentytwo, to accustom them to play together, under the guidance of Mr Hargreares, who was elected Captr in. The fielding was fair, and all the bowlers were called into requisition, so as to enable the captain to judge of his men, but the strong wind was very much against them, as few of the Twenty-two were bowled. Steedman and Spencer were sent to the wickets during the innings of the Twentytwo to give them some practice, as they cannot attend during the week. The innings of the Twenty-two does not call for any special remarks, with the exception of Lough, who made some very pretty drives to leg. The Eleven men being active and desirou^of keeping down the scores, the innings closed for 78, a very small number for so many players. "Whitford and Lawless were sent to the wickets to face the bowling of Paul and Spencer, both these players bowling very well. Whitford wa3 first to retire, then Burgess joined Lawless and remained at the wickets until the stumps were drawn. The batters seemed in good form, and made some pretty play. Our players will have to look to their laurels in the coming match, as some new blood has been infused; into the ranks of the Goromandel Cricket Club, and will make it pretty lively for our Thames team. The club intend to have another match on Saturday, full particulars of which will be given in a future issue, as they proceed to Coromandel on Sunday mornin X ft chartered steamer, and will return on Monday evening.
