OHINEMURI.
(from ouk own c'obbespondbnt.)
"■, Paeboa, 22nd November. As the Pearl was approaching the wharf yesterday afternoon, the sounds of martial music were borne upon the breeze, and people here wondered " what was up." It was found that the enterprising proprietou of the diorama of the FrancoPrussian War was about to give the be-
' nigh ted denizens of this out of the way a glimpse of the ddrnßs^of the world. He has engaged the Paeroa BRPablic< ; H«li; and I hope that he will be •JwaUupatronised, as this is the first entertainment of the kind which has reached th«[«-iUpi?ei'* Toames. % Unfortunatelyr owing to some mistake, no notice of the intention to visit, .this place had been ■jjitenv' Consequently, many persons re-: siding in the out-districts will not be aßle to tike adrsintage; "of the opportunity of showing their children that Ohinemuri is not (he world, and thereby enlarging their ideas. DoubtlesV other .shows of a similar 1 nature (whbie' working' eipbnses are not very heavy),will follow, the lead, and 1,-in ttourßie' of tini6, as we become more cosmopolitan, local jealousies will give place to better feelings. The proprietor of this >■ first show is entitled to our best thanks and support. Hitherto; our entertainments have been* confined to locally-got-up concerts and " hops." \ Colonel Praser, JR,M., held a Court in: the A.C. station yesterday. One man,; for befog drunk, was fined 10s and edsts —•total, 24s 6d. Mr E. M. Corbett was charged with a breach of the S>aughtering Act by killing sheep for sale without • holdjng a license. The evidence given was not'suflScient to convict, and the case was therefore dismissed. Mr Marsh is engaged carting the timber for the Sergeant's Quarters and extra lock up from the 'Race-course to the fite now occupied by the police ,in this township. Mr Lavery will shortly commence the work of erection. Nothing has been settled, so far'as I can learn, 18 to fixing upon a site for the Court House and Other Government buildings. It is very strange that a small matter like this should require so much consideration. .. ' -* ...' .. . •"■■ ■.. ■'\ CMpenters are fully employed here just now. Mr Stephenson is getting on w;«ll: withi Mr Phillips' new store and ; dwelling house. The extension. of Mr Coote'i Robin Hood Hotel, for which Mr ▲.iMoore has the contract, is also rapidly approaching completion.
