Reception of the Australian Cricketers.
The Australian Cricketers received a warm reception in Auckland yesterday evening on arriving by the mail steamer. They were met at the wharf by a number of prominent citizens, and from thence wereeseorted'tothp Auckland Club, where they were surrounded by a large number of citizens. Mr F. Whitaker welcomed the cricketers in a capital speech, and Mr Gregory replied, and then telegrams of welcome were read from the Governor and Sir George Grey. • Healths were drunk, and then the cricketers were escorted to the.more aristocratic establishment, the Northern Club, where they were entertained at dinner. The proceedings must have been highly gratifying to the cricketers.
