This day. Yesterday it was resolved at the Harbor Board to ask the Government to grant a site for a Sailors' Home. The Board resolved to give £500 towards the establishment of the same;
', ■' '•■•'"." ■■■'.."■/•■ ■': ■■■■'" ■''■■' ■ .Friday. A deputation waited on Col. Whit more to-day, on the subject of the defence of Lyttelton. The Col. said that some guns would be out by the end of the year. He scouted the idea of any attack on a New Zealand port, and said that even if suoh did take place the people would soon get used to it.
A conference was afterwards held with the Charitable District Board, and the districts of Amuri and Cheviot were taken into the Chmtchurch boundaries.
A strongnorth-wester has been blowing all day. . , MrG-. Stead purchased Ariel and Longlands at Mr Bedwood's sale yesterday, and he has scratched both for the Oamaru Cup.
