THE BREVITY OF BEAUTY.
Much has been written, more has been said, about a London lioness the past two fashionable seasons. I allude to Mil Langtry, the Jersey violet-eyed and eternally photographed lady, who will make herself public property. I may say in point of attraction that she died a painful death last week. She was not invited to Lady Waldegrave's fancy dress and masked ball. The classic slopes and sylvan groves of " Strawberry Hill" knew not the presence of this rery charming belle, and now society is reading her obituarj! Also, the royal loved riral and equally public bit of gossip, Mrs Cornwallis West, became prominent by her absence from this coveted fete of a successful ballad singer, Miss A. Brahatn, daughter of A. Braham, the vocalist, now Lady or Countess Waldegrave,. etc. Every season a belle if createif here, and every other season she is kindly killed and socially buried. Who is created now ? No less than Mrs Bagot, well talked of in an Irish divorce case and well praised by the " society journal."
