Wellington, This day. HOUSE COMMITTEE. The House last night appointed the members resident in Wellington a House Committee during the recess, with a promise that no expenditure be incurred without the consent of the Government. council's amendment. The Home disagreed with certain amendments of the Council in the Public Reserves Sale Bill, and appointed a committe3 to draw up the reasons. BAILWAYS CCNBTBUCTION BILL. Mr Stout moTed that the House go into committee on the Bailways Construction Bill. Mrßolleston hoped the Government would state the amendments they pro- i posed to introduce. < Mr Macandrew said the Government proposed to amend section three, to enable the Government to construct lines, from _timfl_..to! time tn enter into Contracts, to
construct, extend and maintain lines out of money appropriated by the General Assembly. The Government also proposed to strike out sub-section three, and substitute for section five another clause making the cost of railways mentioned in the schedule, or the purchase or acquisition of land, payable out of money or moneys appropriated by the General Assembly. These amendments were made, and the amounts struck ouc of the schedule. The bill was reported with amendments, and the House went into Committee on the ELECTOBAL BILL. r Mr v tout moved that the House disagree with the Council's amendments, which limited the Maori franchise to ratepayer's qualification, or except for special representation. The amendments were disagreed with on a divisionfby thirty-six to twenty-six, and a committee was appointed to draw up reasons. NATIVE LAW SUITS BILL. On a motion to go into committee on the Native Law Suits Bill, Major Atkinson moved; the adjourn- ' ment. •' ■ ■ '"";:; " :': '■ "■- ■ ■■" ■■'■ Messrs Morris and Douglas supported, but the House went into committee on a division by 37 to 26. Mr Stout moved the insertion of the following names in the bill as judges :— Messrs Mansford, Cook acd Higginbotham. Mr Russell moved that the Chairman report progress. Agreed to on the voices. THE ABOHA BLOCK—BEOOMHALL COL* LAPSES. , The Premier announced the receipt of a telegram from Sir Julius Vogel that Mr Broomhall renounces all claims on the land on receipt of £3,6 CD. | The House adjourned at 3.15.
