Friday. The case on the civil list at the Supreme Court was finished last night. This case was that of young Hassell. The jury gave a verdict for plaintiff for £370. A fire occurred si a boarding house in Colombo street this afternoon. It was extinguished before much harm was done. The house was insured for £600 and the furniture for a like amount in the South British and the Transatlantic.
Colonel Packs,. the commanding officer of Volunteers, made his first appearance on parade last night after his yery long illness.
At the Synod to-day a motion was parsed with a view of the Church of England people doing their own insurances. It was slated that a sum of £15C3 a-year might be saved by judicious insurances. Two very fine lots of merino sheep arrived by the Kingarooma for Messrs Dalgetty and Co. They are all well framed heavy-fleeced rams. ■ It is proposed to build a new Presbyterian Church, and form a new Presbyterian charge in the borough of Sydenham.
