Saturday. A young man named John Mcßae while assisting shunting trucks, laden with cod, this morning, got jammed in between them. When, picked up he was found very much mangled, his thigh and several ribs being broken, and he is not expected to recover. Final arrangements, re the water supply for the oity and suburbs, have been deferred till the close of $ie. session. The annual torchlight procession of the Dunedin Fire Brigade tobk place, last night, and was a great success. , A new club is to be added to the many institutions of a like nature in the city. Its promoters are recruiting for members amongst the existing clubs. It is estimated that tlie Tuapeka County Council will show a deficit of £900 at the I close of the year. Two cottages— >ne ownrd by Wm. Burne and the other by S. Mewhinhey— at Kensington, were burned down last night. A large number of cattle have died in the country districts from eating tuta i berries.
' Shearing is very backward, and the severe weather will have a bad elect on this year's clip. It is slated that mow is far from being melted in the country districts, and that further floods may be looked for.
