The quarter's rereaue returns issued show the total revenue for the quarter was £1,167,423; showing an increase over the corresponding quarter of last year of £60,219. Upon the 12 months ending September 20th, 1878, there was, an increase,, as compared with the prerious 12 months, of £63,883. Although a surplus is shown in the comparison with the corresponding quarter, the .amount is made up with the item of £103,673 derived from the land tax, fcr which theje was no corresponding item in the corresponding quarter of last; year.
