CHABITABLE INSTITUTIONS. In reply to the Hon. J. Hall, Major Whitmore said the Government did not propose to introduce any new bill to deal with the subject of charitable aid institutions this session. The.Government would be prepared to, provide for one half the cost of charitable aid and hospitals in each district; but the locality would have to provide the other half .of the cost in some form or other. The Government desired to leave the management of hospitals entirely in the hands of each local body. The subject was difficult" to deal with, but as the existing system had been more or less successful in the past it did not demand reform at present. : VOLUNTEEB. CADET COEPS. ' In reply to the Hon. Colonel Brett, Major Whitmore said that a return would be prepared showing the strength of the volunteers and cadet corps and other par* ticulars on matters of defence. He did not favor the introduction of Gatling gun's or repeating rifles proposed by Col. Brett. THE CALL OF THE COUNCIL. The Hon.
