A proposition has been made by the Mayor of Dunedin to suburban municipalities, which will probably settle the water supply dispute in a day or two.
Enquiry is to be made by the Commissioner of'Hailways re the collision whick took place at Palmerston. The following telegrams have been received from the country districts re the recent floods:-— Clyde, September 27th.. The Clyde bridge iB not carried away, but has its banks unbroken. The river is now (4 27 p.m. ) (-oing down. The river is threatening. : September 28th; The river is, rapidly falling. The Clyde bridge is not so much damaged as was feared. A few hundred pounds will suffice for its repair. On account of the Alexandra punt wires being broken aud damage done to the bridge, there, is no communication between the Clyde, Alexandra or Tenot. . Queenstown, Sept. 27, 4 p.m. It is raining again. Saturday. The floods in the streams are subsiding, but the Lake is very high, and rising slightly. The weather is . still unsettled, with.occasional showers. Immense land sl'ps have occurred, and damage to the roads throughout the whole district, as many culverts have been carried away. The lower Shotover bridge is comparatively uninjured, and is again passable. No down country mails have arrived since Tuesday, via Dunedin or Kingston.
