. A man nanrd Daniels was arrested in the middle of the night frying to break into the premises of the Hon. John Eobinson. In his possession were found £30 wort'i of duty stamps, supposed to.be a portion of the proceeds of the burglary a few nights ago at Mrs Break well's. Mr George Stead's lot of blood horses from England, per Waimate, arrived in splendid condition. ■ The various rivers have subsided, but railway communication between Christ* ohurchurch rud Timaru is still interrupted. Friday. The damage to the north line and Chancy corner will be repaired on Monday at the Eangitata bridge. The passengers on foot crossed to-day, and if the wind lulls the work of repair will begin to-night late. . : j

Tho wheat market is dull. Minor quotations 4s 3d to 4s 6d; oats are brisk of demand at 4s 3d; flour, £10 lGs to £11 10s; bran, 5s 3d; sharps, £6 6s; cheese, 6|-d; hams and bacon £7 17s cloth; potatoes, £5.
