Thames Rifle Rangers.
MONTHLY INSPECTION.
Major Murrayinspected the Thames Rifle Jiangers at the Volunteer Hall last night. The weather was not favorable to a large attendance, hut the parade was a very good one. there being present Captain B. Farret^ Lieutenant Hunter, between 30 and 4Q in the ranks; besides supernumeraries. On the arrival of Major Murray the company presented arms, and were then subjected to the usual inspection. Afterwards the company was'exercised in manual exercise and company movements by Captain Farrell, Lieut. Hunter, Sergt.-M- jor Grant successively. Major Murray, addressing the oompany, said he should be able to report .to Major Withers a marked improvement in their manual exercises but their firing exercise still wanted in steadiness. The marching was pretty good, and he believed the Bangers would shortly be amongst the besi companies on the fields Allowance must be made for them, for although an old company the ranks had lately been recruited by numbers of young men. He might inform them that lie hM got Major t Withers' consent to allow attendance at a second parade to count for inspection. This would enable men at a distance to put in their proper number'-of-inspec-tions. Major Murray, at the request of Captain. Farrell, tkn presented some prizel?. The first was a silver hunting watch, presented to Sergeant and Secretary John Farrell for valuable services rendered to the company. Major Murray said he had much pleasure in being the medium of presenting such a 'astimonial .to Se-geant Farrell, and banded him the watch: Sergeant Farre'l thanked the company for the handsome present, and assured them that in the future as in the past he would use his best exertions to forward the interests of the company. Volunteer Hioks, the winner of the Manning Belt and first money prize was not present, but presentations were made as follows:—Sergeant Wilson, 2nd money prize; Volunteer Samson, Srd ditto, Volunteer Gilpin, 4th ditto* Sergeant Gibbs, sth dit.o. Major Murray then retired, and the company were dismissed for business meeting. The bandmaitor was introduced, and Captain Farrell informed tb?. company that the band instruments were expected from Melbourne by the Hero on her next trip.:
