NEW NORTH DEVON.
Crushing at the Moahatairi battery was completed this morning for the satisfactory return of 39ozs gold. This is the produce of 33 loads of stuff. The-first parcel of 25 loads~though a considerable improvement on the last crushing at Ball's' —only yielded amalgam about equal to 12dwtsper load. The smaller parcel of about eight, loads,, however, was much better as it' produced amalgam equal to 2ozs per load. This is payable, and steps will be taken to geT out another parcel as improvement has taken place. At" the time of my,last report.thei-eef was about seven feet, but not very' compact. Now, though the reef extends O7er the face of the drive, there is four feet of good solid quartz in the, centre, and it r was.of this stuff alone that the last parcel was made up of. Driving is the oqly work at present in progress in the mine, .but it is likely that stoping will be commenced soon."
