Wednesday. In the Council to-day the.Hoa. Mr Wilson brought up the Clyde Athenffium Bill, and after the transaction of some minor business several Bills were committed. No progress was made with the Impounding Bill, it being almost immediately reported. On the sth clause of the Interpretation Bill, an effort was made by the Hon. Mr Mantell to get words, which validate past orders in Council 1 which may have been irregular, .struck ont.buthe « as unsuccessful, and the clause passed. " The Committee got through the Bill, without any very material amendment. The Land Claims Settlement Bill was then taken, but progress was imme--1 diately reported, so that -the alterations proposed could be printed. The Municipal Council Act is now before the Council. r It euables Corporations to establish gas works in. opposition to existing companies. ; , . -,.'■ THE. CIVIL SERVICE ACT AMENDMENT .BILL. On the Council resuming at 7.30 tonight the amendments proposed by his Excellency in- the - Civil' Service: Acts Amendment -Bill were', agreed to, and clause 8 will now read, " No person who was a Provincial officer on the coming into. operation of the-Abolition of Provinces Act, 1875, and transferred' to the Civil Service on the coming into operation of the Act last mentioned, shall be entitled to any retiring allowance under the Civil Service Act, 1866, or' any Act repealed, by such Act." The .Council then proceeded in committee with the Repeals Bill, and other' measures of no great importance. : . :
