'After some discussion,during which the utility of the proposed work was generally admitted, it was resolved, on the motion of Mr Gibbons, " That though the Board consider the work would be valuable if carried out, they cannot carry it out at present for want of funds.,". ,

A letter was read from the Secretary of the Auckland Harbor Board stating that the dredge was at present laid jup for repairs, and that negotiations were pending with the Government, and it was probable that the Government would require it and would take it over. j The Secretary was instructed to write again to the Auckland Board, asking tjhe terms, etc, at which they .would be prepared to dispose of the dredge, or. lend it to the Thames Harbor 80i«r,d.,. _V ; , 'The Chairman said that he had been thinking they could construct a dredge adequate to the requirements of the place , at one half the cost of the Auckland ! dredge. • „.,'.' Mr Gibbons mored " That the Board consider that the construction of a gridiron at the outer end of the Shortlahd Wharf would be a great benefit to owners Of boats and vessels." The Chairman suggested that it might be better to appoint a committee to, find out where would be' the best place to construct a gridiron: * Mr Gibbons then withdrew his resolution, and a motion was carried to the effect that the Chairman, Messrs Price, Spencer and Gibbons be a committee to report on the best place to,' erect, a gridiron. - . ' ' • GASONBUBKE STBEET WHARF. ■ It was resolved that arrangements be made by the Chairman with the night watchman to turn out, the - gas on the wharf lamps at stated times.. v:: . UNSATISf ACTOBY YTOBK. The Chairman said that he was sorry he could not recommend that the account l6i Mr Wade, the contractor for laying the pipes down the Burke street wharf, be passed, as the work of laying the pipes had not been done properly, and there was a considerable escape of gas at the I joints of the pipes. The leaks were temi porarily patched up.. i. Mr Gibbons mored that £50 be paid on

account, and that the remainder be held for the present.' -. , Mr Mennie seconded. .;

'FINANCE.

A number of accounts (including progress pa3 ruients on several contracts) were passed for payment,, the matter of recovering a sum of £5 from Mr M. J. Dower the amount of damage done to the wharf by his vessel, being left in the hands of the Chairman. POWDBK MAGAZINE. The Chairman was instructed to take steps to repair the fence round the powder magazine. ACCOMMODATION FOB FISHEKMEN. ' It was decided that the work of constructing the small jetty at Shortland for the accommodation of fisherman be proceeded with at once; ' . This was all the business. j
