ELECTORAL BILL.
. The House resumed at 7.30 on the •Electoral Bill. Mr Wakefiela's amendment re convicts having been after some discussion, the ;Hon. Mr ;Sheehan proceeded, to deliver' his Statement on Native Affairs.

This-day. - ■IN COMMUTES OK THE ELECTOBAL _BILL., ; After the Native Statement last night, the House went again' into committee on' the Electoral Bill.. Clauses. 22 and 23 ipassed unamended. ', ,„' '' Re clause 24 Mr Saunders proposed an amendment under which a member elected for two constituencies should decide which he would retain within fourteen days in- v stead of twenty-eight as proposed in the clause. The amendment was lost. This clause was amended to read after words "him" in the 58th line, all the rest of the clause to be struck out so as to allow the insertion of the words "Unless the i seat be duly claimed by some person. Provided farther that if no such choice be made the returns of seats for which he has been elected shall be deemed void."
Clauses 25, 26 and 27 passed. Clause 28. A division' was taken on the question ot striking out the words " except person." with a view to insert the word "not." On.the question being put that the words proposed to be omitted stand part of bill, the ayes were 42; noes ;5. ' .
Clause 28 was amended by the insertion of the words " entitled to be registered as a voter " instead of the words " entitled ito.vote."
Clause 29 was amended so as to read "that he was not preriously claimed to
Clauses 30 and 31 were carried.
Clause 32, after the words "lodged with" the words "or forwarded to," were added.
. Clause 33 was passed. On the motion of Mr Wakefield to report progress, the ayea were 19, noes 24.
Clauies 34, 35 and 36 were carried without amendment.
